I just thought I'd bring to the attention of new pool owners in the area a product which will keep your pool sparkling clear and maximise the efficiency of your pool filter. The soil around here is very fine which means there is a lot of extremely fine dust particles blowing around. A pool cover and regular cleaning will help to keep your pool reasonably clean, but the grain size and efficiency of most sand filters fitted means that most of this fine dust is not removed and stays in solution, and is therefore returned to your pool , giving the water a cloudy, less than clear appearance. Normal cleaning techniques will not remove all of this fine matter.

Jolly Gel is a product, which usually comes in packs of six gel blocks. This is a flocculant, which when added to your system coagulates the fine particles into larger particles, so that your sand filter can effectively remove them. You simply place a block in your pump's pre-filter (remembering to switch off your pump & close all your system valves), which will last for about 3 weeks.

You can get them at most pool supply shops. We get ours either at Arboleas Industrial Estate (Soft Tub?) or the Piscinas Octopus shop just up from Lepantos ferreteria in Albox.
